Last night we introduced a couple 4.1 build-381591 hosts to our non-prod cluster. The existing hosts are all 4.0 build-251974. We had the intention to upgrade those hosts soon, but regardless. We leave enabled the "Check and upgrade Tools during power cycling" option on these VMs, understanding that this activity will occur on boot.
However, last night, several (not all!) VMs that DRS moved onto the new hosts upgraded their Tools immediately and rebooted. They were all previously running tools version 4.0.0,build-261974.
I recall a bug in this behavior back in 3.5 days, but had thought that was long resolved? Its a shame. If this is normal behavior, I'm going to have to do a lot more micro management of Tools upgrade behavior and status.
Can anyone provide an explanation or documentation of this behavior?
