Managing Linked clone pools

I have a bit of a dilema. I have a linked clone pool that is in another cluster whose hosts are very out of date. We have recently upgraded from View 4.0.1 to View 4.6. The problem is that I want to import (if this is even possible) a linked clone pool into my new view environment. The reason for this is that there are a number of VMs that are in use that have User data disk that I wish to keep the same. Is this even possible or should I be thinking of another solution?

Note: My current ESXi cluster is using version 4.1

i believe you should perform an inplace upgrade from the 4.0, with that in place your linked clone get's migrated/imported together.

Thanks for the advice, but I think that ship already sailed. Is it possible to do this any other way. I ask because my cluster that part of the 4.0.1 implementation was in has been moved to another virtual center. The primary reason to attempt to do some sort of import of an existing pool is because I don't believe I will be able to perform an in place upgrade anymore. Any suggestions are greatly welcome.

Understood, have a look at this tutorial where he did a manual import of the user data disk and then a reattachment. i hope you find it useful: http://vmguy.com/wordpress/index.php/archives/1501

Check out this post about moving persistent disk clones over to a different vCenter.  I've been wanting to try this so if you end up going this route please report back.
