VCAP-DCD Test Cost /Rant

So I've just requested to be able to do the VCAP-DCD exam and PearsonVue is telling me the cost for the exam is $610 US dollars (local currencies is $740 NZ dollars). Is this roughly what other people had to pay for the exam? I'm trying to figure out what the base course cost is and if this is adjusted for non US customers and also if my VMUG Advantage membership is being applied or not.

$600 US dollars seems like a ridiculous price to me. Especially for an exam that has mostly multichoice answers and gives you a result as soon as you click complete. You would think that doing the Design Workshop course they would give you a discount voucher for the exam or something.

What is most galling is that only other VMware people understand how valuable having a VCAP-DCD certification is. Hiring managers don't have a clue what VCAP means, so at the moment I cannot charge more then my normal hourly rate even if I get the certification. Maybe this will charge in the next few years, but at the moment the cost of the exam seems disproportionate to the value obtained by it (except of course for the self edification component).

i totally agreed with you. on and off the education division do run some promo and they have a code that gives you 50% off (i receive a few). you might want to check with your region and see if such promo if still available .. i'm from asiapacific, so NZ should be more or less the same i guess ..

The Test in the US is $400 dollors with no VMUG Adv.

If I recall testing prices are sugested from VMware but VUE can charge what they feel is right. I could be wrong on this part.

And yes I am only seeing few places looking for VCAP certs, this might change as VCAP becomes more of standard in VMworld.

Really strange price.

Have you try to check the price also from the VUE website?

You can book the exam online and see the real price before pay and confirm the exam.

For what it's worth. In the UK I paid £250 + VAT = £300 for the DCD in March. The DCA is the same price currently as I was looking at booking the other day.
