Migrating VM's with large disks

I need to cold migrate couple of vm's that have more than 700GB of disks to new datastores. With cold migration this will take almost 14 hours per VM

With fastscp, I get 20mbps, which will still take 8/9 hours

Which fasted way to clod migrate?

the fastest way is to perform a cold/hot block level clock, with that in place if better still do a back to back network connection. that would provide you the best transfer speed.

Morning,

700 GB is a larg disk size, but can still be vMotioned or rather storage vMotioned for no downtime . . if you have the storage connecting to multiple hosts etc.

If you are going to new, non-connected storage, I would look to see whether your SAN has any replication tools to manage replication of data.

Otherwise, you are stuck with FastSCP, or SCP. There are a few tweaks you can look into that majke data copy a little quicker.

The only other option I can think of is backing up and restoring the data? Do you havea backup tool running on this host?

One day I will virtualise myself . . .
