Error in vCenter Agent Preupgrade Check Tool - Cannot verify the installer signature

Hi,

during preparing for the Upgrade to vCenter Server 4.0 to 4.1 U1 i run the vCenter Agent Preupgrade Check Tool. In step pre-check i get the following error back:

[VCAgentU:Error   :P: 5] 2011-03-18 12:03:39.992  RMI Error Vmomi.AgentManager.Upgrade - 13
<Error type="Vmomi.Fault.AgentInstallFailed">
  <Message>Cannot install the vCenter agent service. Cannot verify the installer signature</Message>
  <DetailedMessage>Cannot install the vCenter agent service. Cannot verify the installer signature
</DetailedMessage>
</Error>

What does thies error mean and which steps do i need to fix it?

Kind regards,

Sascha

Hi Sacha,

I've seen this issue in a couple of places. I'm still taking a look at what's causing it, and am trying to grab a Wireshark dump while running the pre-upgrade agent checker.

From what I can see, there are two files being pushed down to /tmp/vmware-root/ha-agentmgr, but their content doesn't seem to be correct.

What version of ESX/ESXi do you have? (Build number would be good to know)

Solution is described in KB "Scanning ESX/ESXi hosts using Agent Pre-Upgrade Checker fails with the error: Connection Failed": http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1036848

Kind regards,
