Is there anyway to get email notifications for jobs that run for vmware data recovery?

Although vBackup (www.vbackup.com) is proxy-based (using VCB or vStorage API), it provides e-mail notification without scripting or enabling telnet.
This is rediculous.. Is this type of reporting even in the works? We shouldn't have to "hack" a vmware product to make this work.
It seems that Backup and Recovery using the appliance is the red headed step child of vSphere. I can only hope by not having it they are working on something better.
The next version should be including email notifications
