Linux p2v using Vmware Converter

After trying for two days and everything I can find on Google I need to know, has anyone ever been able to successfully complete a Linux p2v using VMware converter and if so, what steps did you take in order to completed this?

Seriously, is this even possible?

there are some reports that it works - main caveat: target must be a managed host = ESX

local targets such as network shares , USB disks , local disks do not work
