VMware tools problem under Red Hat 4

Hi,

I upgrade the VMware Tools (VMwareTools-8195-332073) in a Virtual Machine with Red Hat 4, 32 bits. When running vmware-config-tools.pl and must be configured the screen resolutions the virtual machine console goes black and virtual machine unusable.

Reboot the virtual machine solves the problem but when I try to run again vmware-config-tools.pl the problems occurs again.

I tried to rpm and tar.gz packages, different screen resolutions without favorable results.

The /etc/inittab file has runlevel value 3

The version of ESX is 4.0.0. 332073

I appreciate any help.

Are you doing this from the vSphere client console or via SSH? You should be using the vSphere client.

Problem solved.

Delete the xorg.conf file in Red Hat 4. Run the vmware-config-tools.pl script. Will create a new xorg.conf file and the script successfully completes its execution.
