Thinclient vs software client performance

We are in the stage of testing vmware view (4.5)

We bought a Wyse terminal, compatible with pcoip view 4.5.

We found that the performance, in terms of graphics smoothness or watching a youtube clip, is not as well as if I were to install a view client on a regular desktop. While connecting using the software client gives us smooth graphics, the thinclient seems to experience hiccups.

Is this this the nature of thinclients or is there some fine tuning to do?

Anybody experienced with thinclients??

Which Wyse client are you using? We've tried a lot, and they vary in performance and drawbacks. But we have seen the same issues you're seeing, depending on the client.

For the best experience, the Wyse P20 (zero client) is by far the favorite. Our strategy is using these in combination with re-purposed modified desktops.

It's better to share your model and also many times a newer firmware flashing has resolve most of my Wyse TC issues.

We are not a thin client shop but we did some testing with the Wyse P20 zero client.   I thought the performance using that was very comparable to using my software client.

my apologies, the wyse model we're trying is C50LE: http://www.wyse.com/products/hardware/thinclients/C50LE/index.asp

Its got 1 Gig Ram and a 1ghz cpu. firmware: 11.0.112

Besides the P20 one, any other models that would give a better experience than the C50LE?

Would the windows 7 embedded models perform better?

I can't tell from Wyse's documentation what that model is using but I see a big difference between RDP and PCoIP clients visually. Verify what protocol it's using and if it's RDP that's all you can expect. We accidentally bought a unit we thought did PCoIP but doesn't and we'll be relegating those to places where it doesn't matter.

To see what units have the Teradici chip in it go to Teradici's website and look there: http://www.teradici.com/pcoip/pcoip-products/vmware-view-clients.php

Have you tried TCX in conjunction with the C50LE? It did help some in our testing.

That said, it did always seem like converted desktops performed slightly better than thin clients. We never tried any of the Windows embedded thin clients, though.

To have best performance there are some models with an hardware implementation of PCoIP.

Look for "Zero Clients".
