Okay, How do I make this work. I have 1 File server that I migrated form Physical to Virtual. Its currently attached via fiber channel to a SAN where all Datastores are contained. My goal is to privide a clustered environment for this and other VMs to utilize HA and/or vMotion technologies built into vCenter.
I know I can setup two hosts, connecting them both to the SAN then establishing a cluster but is there a way to do this without having to double my storage requirements. e.g. Cluster 1 contains Host A and Host B setup in HA mode. All virtual machines are stored on LUN 1 of the SAN Both Hosts A and B access the same VM files on LUN 1 if either Host fails.
Aloha,
I don't quite get your question about doubling storage. No matter how many hosts you have, the VM and data will only reside in one place.

You're example is right on--"e.g. Cluster 1 contains Host A and Host B setup in HA mode. All virtual machines are stored on LUN 1 of the SAN Both Hosts A and B access the same VM files on LUN 1 if either Host fails."
The hosts would see LUN 1 as a datastore. There's nothing to double; add the VMs to the inventory from the datastore. There's a nice write-up here <http://www.virtualizationadmin.com/articles-tutorials/vmware-esx-articles/vmotion-drs-high-availability/configure-vmware-high-availability-vmha.html> that may help you work through this.

Yeah, I think I spoke a little too soon. I just read this (below) whitepaper and it explained my problem. Thanks for the post though..
