Vmware view 4.5, ESX, TV Tuner?

Hello,

I've did some searches and back in 2006 saw messages that this was not possible... but that was a long time ago so i'm wondering if it works now.

Is it possible to have a PC with Tv Tuner card that launches VMWare View on start up running on ESX server to give access to the TV Tuner card, so that you can use Windows 7 Media Center to watch TV?

so:

PC with Windows xp or Win 7 that has a physical TV tuner and Coax to Cable provider --> Launches VMWare View Desktop running windows 7 and access the TV Tuner.

Thank you,

Daniel Schmidt

Hello,

This will work ONLY if the TV Tuner is a USB device and not a physical card. The issue at hand is that you can share a USB device to a VM but not a Tuner card unless the Tuner card supports Single Root IO Virtualization which most do not. Unless the USB device was attached to an ESX host directly thereby pinning the VM, you have to worry about network latency for USB access.
