Thin Provisioned VMDK - Fully Provisioned

I was reading an Internet article about using SDelete to zero out my free space within my Windows Server 2008 VMDKs ....so I ran SDelete.....now my thin provisioned VMDKs are at full provisioned capacity.....which I did not expect.

Given that my VMDKs are now at full provisioned capacity.....however I am only using 33% of the capacity with real data.....free space is 66%.....will the Windows Server 2008 VMDKs effectively reuse the free space ?

After running sdelete you need to migrate VMDK to another datastore using thin disk as destination type to reclaim free space from VMDK.

Yes....you are right of course.

I copied the VMDK using vClient....and the destination size is only 10gb.....while the source (and fully provisioned) size was 40gb.

So....copying the VMDK using vClient is more of a logical copy.....not a physical copy....so provided SDelete has been run.....and it is a Thin provisioned VMDK... the destination VMDK will be shrunk.

Thanks
