I am having issues with upgrading vmware tools from a esx 4.0u2 host to esxi 4.1. I had to completely uninstall vmware tools and reinstall.
Hi Tdubb123,
What kind of issue did you have? Was it on all your VMs or just some of them? What OS was it? Did you find any trace in a log?
Franck
tried it on 2 w2k3 machines and getting the
Error upgrading vmware tools in vcenter. worked fine on a 2008 vm. where is the location of the vmware tools install log?
I am having an issue where the tools say they are not running.
Background:
Upgraded from esx 4.0 to esx 4.1
vm = Server 2008 R2 core - opened console after clicking upgrade vmtools/interactive
switched to the cdrom drive(d:) and ran the setup64.exe
everything went fine and rebooted
and now under vmware tools it just says not running
I can ping the server and it appears the tools are running as i can mouse into the console window without having to release the cursor etc.
However it says they are not running and the vmware tools service is not running either. The error the service gives when i try and start it is:
"Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified."
All other services appear to be running fine on the server.
Any ideas?
Thanks
The installation log file should be in your %TEMP% folder with a name like "vminst.xxx.log".
i did not see anything updated in the vminst.log file under C:\windows\temp
this is only happening on 2003 machines
an interactive install seems to work but not automatic.
%TEMP% does not have to be this directory c:\windows\temp.
If you search your home folder those files should show up under them.
sorry tdubb, i did not try and hijack your post! i will open a new thread!
sorry again!
no problem!
looks like this was the issue..
