Ghost Printer Issues in View 4.5

For those of you out there running 4.5 and teradici zero clients you need to know of a major issue with printers: Ghost Printers. I can repeat this with mulitple printer models and the issue does not occur on non-PCoIP zero clients. All you have to do is plug in a printer via USB into your zero client (this can be a Wyse/Samsung/Dell/whatever) and let it sit for a day or so. I see the issue most when the printer has gone into power save.

Apparently the issue is that every time the printer presents itself to the zero client it is presented with a new unique ID. I'm not sure if this is called a SID or not but that's how I think of it. Well that SID changes and due to that the printer is recreated. I have had upwards of 10 copy's on a VM. My VMs are locked down via Group Policy so its very difficult to remove the printer once it is there. We have written a very log VB script that runs as system and cleans them up. I'm happy to post this to whomever may need it, however this is an issue that needs to be patched ASAP.

I understand PCoIP is Teradici's baby and have contacted them, they need to talk to VMWare about it, and will get back in touch with me. I will post once I hear more.

BTW, notice in my picture above the Midmark Document Convert. This is not a USB based printer, therefore it is not replicated. Notice the Copy 1 duplicate printer. This is what I'm talking about, I've had up to Copy 7. Our VB Script we run constantly deletes the printer and cleans this mess up.

I have the EXACT same issue with my ZeroClients where I have USB Dymo Label Writers. I'd like to say that in this state it is more or less not working at all.

Gunnarb: Could you share the script? I'd greatly appreciate it.

Hi jaksun,

I work for Gunnar and can post the scripts we use. See attached zip file.

These scripts have worked well for us. Let me know if you have any questions.

Good luck,

-John

Thanks!

Is there any way i could make the script execute it's routines with an admin account?

The best way to run the script from an admin account is through Scheduled Tasks. Have the script execute at startup (this is an option in Sch. Tasks) and then run it under the Administrator account.
