Moving Swap files to new storage

I am running esx 3.5i on two clustered server with all storage on a EMC SAN, we are currently in the process of moving to a new SAN I have migrated all the VM's to the new SAN but cannot move the swap files for the ESX servers. If I break the connection to the old SAN will ESX recreate the swap files on the new SAN or the HOST machine? Or not at all? What is the best practice for this?

Hi,

A new swap file is created every time the virtual machine is powered on, so IMO as long as the specified location for storing swap files is accessible the a new swap file would be created and the old file can be discarded.

To check the default swap file location use the link http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1004082

When you power on a VM, a memory swap file is created .http://searchvmware.techtarget.com/tip/0,289483,sid179_gci1343897_mem1,00.html

This is a link that gives a great explanation of the swap file and other files that make up the VM files system.

Did you power down the VMs before the storage?

Sorry to all I failed to explain fully what the issue is.. The swap files I am referring to are the ESX server swap files These are on a Cx500 san and I am trying to move them to a new san. In the jpg below they are named 200_swap and 220_swap. They contain the var and downloads folder also the uwswap file. Will I have to break the cluster or can I reeconfigure the setting to point to the new SAN? Again thanks for all the help
