Upgrading vNetwork Distributed Switch from 4.0 to 4.1

Hi,

When I created a new vNDS in 4.1, the dialog box give a choice to choose between 4.0 and 4.1 version. So this means there are 2 versions of this vDS (which is expected, as the new version adds new features).

Now that there are 2 versions, how do we upgrade it? Does the host need to be in maintenance mode (and rebooted) since we are changing something at the VMkernel level?

If the management network is also on the vNetwork DS, will it automatically re-connect?

The 4.1 upgrade guide does not cover this yet.

Many thanks in advance.

I haven't tried this upgrade but all the information is available in the ESX configuration guide which can be accessed from link http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r41/vsp_41_esx_server_config.pdf check page number check page number 32 for Upgrade a vDS to a Newer Version.

It does not mention any criteria about host being in maintenance mode Smiley Happy

Hi,

I updated our vDS from 4.0 to 4.1 without any maintenance mode or service window. Just press update on the vDS. That is all it takes.
