Defunct Hostd Process.

Hello All,

I have a 3.5 esx host with a defunct Hostd process, and from what vmware is telling me you cannot kill it. Is there a way to accomplish this task..??

Ive tried restarting all the services and to no avail it dosent work. There has to be a way to do it..

Please help, I have 30 guests on this prod box..!!!

Hello,

Try restarting the management agents:

service mgmt-vmware restart

Nope, ive tried restarting all the agents and nothing. The Hostd process is listed as Defunct. Ive went as far as doin a kill -9 and that didnt work..

Hi,

I am sorry to say that we wont be able to kill defunct process, you may get some script from the internet but that might even cause problems with the production servers.

Reboot is the only options unfortunately.

Now you said a script off the Internet.. Can you elaborate..?? Please..??

A reboot would take weeks to preform...
