VLAN Trunks

Can someone confirm how you create a VLAN trunk in ESX ?

What I have is various VMs all in there own port groups (with seperate VLAN IDs) all on the same virtual switch. I need for these to communicate out to my switches trunk port through a physical interface.

Thanks in advance.

There is no need to configure trunk on ESX level. Just assign VLAN IDs to corresponding portgroups on vSwitch.

promiscuous mode is definitely NOT the same as a trunk port. keep in mind to revert this when done sniffing as you just created a huge security breach.

Yep Im aware that a trunk port and promisc are different but you still need promis enabled to allow the sniffing of all unicast traffic on the vswitch.
