P2V conversion, now getting "Error loading operating system" message upon boot up of the new VM

I performed a physical machine-to- virtual machine conversion on a desktop PC running Windows XP Pro with SP3, and now I am getting a "Error loading operating system" message upon boot up of the new VM. Th only config chage that I did was to reduce the "size" of the C: during the conversion. The physical machine had a 150 GB hard drive in it, but I don't need to waste that much resources in the virtual environment, so I cut it back to only have 40GB. Any idea why the VM gives me that "Error loading operating system" message upon boot up of this virtual machine?

that sounds like you used Converter 4.0.1 - using 3.0.3 will get better results ...

maybe the disc is not set active or the controller that you configured was IDE or LSIlogic ...

if you want to troubleshoot post the vmx-file - otherwise just do it again with 3.0.3
