vSwitch - Number of ports???

I kept getting the compatibility message about the migration from Host to Host warning due to" Network Adapter, which is accessed on the host via a switch that has no free ports".

Call VMware and they said I have 24 ports on one ESX and 56 on the other within the my 'Virtual Machine Port Group - Production'. We have at the moment about 40 VM's and will be adding more in the near future.

My question is this: Will moving up to 120 virtual ports present any draw backs if they are not all being used early on?

Are there any other tips or tricks to consider in changing this configuration?

I plan to go into Maintenance mode, change ports and reboot host?

thanks for any assistance.

the only thing to consider is that you will need to reboot the host after the change

no there are no drawbacks - but as Jose said you will need to reboot your ESX host -

From a technical issue regarding ESX no there is no issue with increasing the number of ports on a switch, however as has been started you will need to reboot the host to activate the change

It makes sense to have your hosts exactly the same especiallyif they are in the cluster, and you will be utilising vMotion, Automatic DRS or DPM
