Upgrading SAN - ESX 3.5 & VMFS Datastores

Infrastructure overview:

1x HP EVA5000 (Active/Passive) - DEV & TEST VM's

1x HP EVA6000 (Active/Active) - LIVE Server VM's

6x ESX3.5 Build 153875

1x VC 2.5 U6

We have a requirement to upgrade the EVA5000 SAN to an Active/Active array, the EVA5000 hosts many datastores for DEV/Test guests.

We are not able to get downtime on the ESX servers during the upgrade as we have Live/Production servers accessing the EVA6000 SAN.

I am aware that I may need to re-signature the LUNS on the EVA5000 as calculated meta-data may change. (I dont need help with this as I have done this before and understand why)

Please review the procedure below, have I missed anything.

1. Shutdown the VM's that access the EVA5000 Datastores

2. unmount the EVA5000 LUNS using command "umount".

3. un-present the EVA5000 Storage to the ESX hosts.

4. upgrade the firmware on the EVA5000 controller.

5. present the EVA5000 LUNS back to the ESX hosts.

6. re-mount the EVA5000 LUNS.

7. rescan the HBA's

8. start the VM's we powered off in step 1.

8a. if EVA5000 LUNS are presented as snapshots, calculate new meta-data values for the EVA5000 LUNS using the re-signature procedure.

8a.i. re-register vms & templates.

9. change the pathing policy to "Fixed".

I am unsure how to perform steps 2 & 6 has anyone used the "umount" command before?
