Expand Local Storage Volume - Local Disk

Hi,

I currently have an IBM x3650 M2 running ESXi 4 which has been installed (from a downloaded CD) onto a single RAID-5 disk volume.

Now if I expand the underlying disk array by adding 2 more disks, will ESXi 4 let me use the extra space or will I need to clean the system off reinstall ESXi 4 ?

M.

I also have this enquiry. I try to search KB for it and they described that it is able to expand the capacity as follow procedure:

In vSphere client, Configuration -> Storage -> properties of Datastores and then click “Increase” to select the additional storage device.

However, their have no additional storage device to let me choose.

Could someone give us some adice?

Thx

ESX/ESXi support the grow of VMFS datastore.

But I suggest to first check your partition table (with fdisk -l) to see if there is space to create a new partition (if you have upgrade from ESXi 3.5 probably there isn't).

Another option is create a NEW logical volume (in your RAID controller) and then create a new datastore or extend the existing one with the new logical disk.
