Trying to convert HP dv2000 WinXP Home Laptop.

Here are some of the errors in the logs. Any help would be much appreciated. My searching has yielded little.

One warning in the Log Highlights was: Failed while updating drive letters for the target volume layout.

try Converter 3.0.3 - that seems to be a little bit more reliable

Hi, what version of converter are you using?

Had you tried the converter standalone?

you can try to do reconfigure with the converted VM

are you hot converting or cold converting?

I am using the latest version of the Stand Alone converter.

I am doing a hot conversion.

I haven't tried to reconfigure after the conversion. I will try that and report back.

I just realized that I already deleted the VM that I created so I won't be able to attempt reconfiguration. I can run another conversion but it will take 5+ hours.

I'd like to be able to do something different on my next attempt since it takes so long.

Do any of the errors I have provided indicate something I can fix?

In the moment you are converting the machine are you changing the size of the disk's?

try not to change anything in the disk size in the moment of converting, or you can try (if you have some partition's) to convert only the first partition (the partition that have de OS), and then copy the data of the other partition's manually.

Thanks Inairin. I'll give it another try. I am doubtful however.

Anyone else see something to work on?

OK, I tried again with the latest version. I wrote the VM to the local machine and only converted the primary partition. Still had the same issue.

I then tried to reconfig. That did not work either. The converter said the file did not support configuration.

I'll try continuum's suggest of using an older version. What can it hurt?

Where can I get version 3.0.3?

Will I have any issues with the VM it produces running on Win7?

don't delete the result too early - even if it does not work after Converter is done with it - you can fix 7B bluescreens on XP-VMs quite easily with DriverInjectionGUI used from a PE-CD

Will I have any issues with the VM it produces running on Win7?

No

Thanks for the suggestion continuum.

I used version 3.0.3 and it worked.

I am still having a problem, but I don't know that it is an issue with VMware so I won't make much of it here.

I am actually using VirtualBox to run the VM. The P2V vm I just created runs in VirtualBox but it is running REALLY!!!! slow. I don't see error it just acts as if it is on really slow hardware. Maybe it is just some settings but I have been playing around with it and nothing seems to help.

I'm headed off to the VirtualBox forums to see what I can find.
