Cannot Install the vCenter Agent Service. Cannot Verify the installer Signature

Has anyone dealt with the following error when trying to attach Esxi to vCenter Standard?

It's When I I go to 'Add Host' within my Datacenter and and assign my vSpehere keys to to any ESXi Free box that I want to add, where the process stops at 19% (everytime) with a 'Cannot Install the vCenter Agent Service. Cannot Verify the installer Signature' Dialog Error.

Question: Are the ESXi Free ISO's any different than the ESXi distributions that come with your vSphere Media that could be causing this issue?

Any insight would be great!

Thank you!

Hi Aravind,

All ports (except 903 are open on both of my Esxi Boxes). I too thought maybe there might be a DNS issue here, but all names resolve correctly both doing forward and reverse lookups.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks -

Dave

Hello Dave,

I think the virtual center is having a problem install the agent. Manually uninstall the agent and add the host to the vCenter.

Check the version of the agent "rpm -qa grep vpxa"

stop mgmt-vmware "service mgmt-vmware stop"

stop vpxa /etc/init.d/vmware-vpxa stop

Uninstall vpxa using the rpm command

Restart mgmt-vmware service "service mgmt-vmware start"

Reconnect the host to the virtual center

rpm -qa grep vpxa

Aravind,

Since this is ESXi 4, not ESX 4, so there is no service console to run these commands against the box

I am not sure if this is relevant; but when I enter my vSpehere Advanced license key into my Esxi host and restart, I see that vCenter Agent (Under Configuration >> Security Profile >> Services will not start. If I attempt to manually start the Agent service, I recieve a dialog stating 'Error During the configuration of the host'

Just to clarify, this host was built up from the ESXi Free Download from VMware's site. Woudl that be plaing into the issue at all?

Thanks Again!

Hello Dave,

Sorry that completely slipped my mind. However can I have a screen shot of the error message. Also trying the full version of ESXi is not a bad idea!

Solution!

I reinstalled my vCenter onto a new host and all ESXi Boxes can now be attached w/o issue! There must have been some previous components left from my last vCenter Build still left on the box.
