Unity not working in 3.01

Using Windows XP, Unity view doesn't show any opened Windows programs. They are fine in Single Window or Full Screen, but when I switch to Unity, only the names of the programs opened show at the bottom of the screen. If I right click on the programs showing in the menu bar, I get the option to close, but the rest of the optionslike restoreare cut off. If i show the Fusion Library, while in Unity mode, it shows that the Windows programs are opened, but I can't do anything with them. As soon as I switch back to Full Screen or Single Window, everything is fine. I've tried hiding the menu bar--no help. My Mac Dock is on the left side, not at the bottom, if that means anything or has anything to do with it.

I'm running the Mac in 64 bit kernel. I never used Unity in 3.0.0 because I tried it once and the same thing happened. I used to use it in the 2.0.x versions.

No doubt there's information I'm not presenting herethere always isbut if you tell me what you need in terms of logs, etc., I'll supply them.

Thanks

By the way, I have completely uninstalled VMware Tools and reinstalled them, rebooting with each step.

For what its worth I'm having the same issues and have done the re-install of VMWare tools as well. It actually crashes VMWare tools within the XP VM when I try and start something then the VM is hosed and I have to shut it down and restart it.

Just running a MAC Mini here with Snow Leopard in 32bit mode and I used to use Unity all the time under 3.0 with great success.

I've attached a System Profiler file

Yes, it's somewhat bizarre. I'm running an early 2009 iMac, Snow Leopard 10.6.2, and I allot 1 GB RAM to the VM out of the 4 GB I have.

I said earlier that I thought I had the same problem with 3.0.0, but I'm not sure that I did, at all--I just know that Unity didn't work very well in 3.0.0, and the program screens seemed to get distorted.

Tonight I tried to run 3.0.1 in Unity again, and got a partial window of one of the programs, and a full window of another (a very small window to begin with).

It's strange that these things don't show up in the beta testing, because if they did, the version wouldn't be released until it was fixed, I assume.

Still no replies or seeming recognition by VMware to this post. I realize it probably isn't the highest priority. But is there any additional info I can attach to let you figure out why Unity isn't working in 3.01 in my system and apparently some others' systems? Should I submit a support request or bug report? Or just be patient?

Thanks.

KenV,

I would suggest submitting a support ticket. Try and include as much information as possible. That way the issue can get dealt with a bit faster for you.

Thanks!

Well, your reply inspired me to go to help and support, look at the Knowledge Base on 3.0 and Unity. There was one article about 3.0 and dock and system tray issuesnot my issues, exactlywhich suggested closing down Fusion, going to the VM folder itself, deleting the Applications Folder. I also deleted the Applications Cache folder, just for good measure.

Unity is now working for me in 3.0.1. !

SoI wonder why this fix isn't suggested as standard procedure for everyone upgrading to 3.0? Apparently it's all that was needed. Makes sense to get rid of old cache files and the like and starting all overthey'll get built up again.

Unfortunetly that didn't work for me. Still can't get Unity to work.

VMWare tools crashes when I try starting Outlook. I've re-installed...even after deleting the applications folders. No change.
