Hi,
Got asked a question on an interview a few weeks back.
"""In ESX 3.5 if a guest blue screens on crashes what will happen, my answer was Nothing."""" - the interviewer said HA would restart it
In ESX4.0 - I know HA will restart the guest but I'm sure this is new so not available in 3.5
Can someone confirm..... the interviewer was positive it could be done in 3.5
thanks
It depends on how is configured VM monitoring in VMware HA.
It exists also in VI 3.5 (as an experimental feature).

As Andre pointed out it can be done but it is experiemental -

...and remember to VMM to work the guest(s) must have the VMware Tools installed.
HA works to ways: for hosts and for VMs.
Second is called VM Monitoring and was added in late 3.5 releases. So both are right - if something happens to VM and VM goes to BSOD, but host are fine then HA will do nothing unless VM Monitoring is enabled.
VM Monitoring tracks heartbeats from VMs and restarts VM if misses heartbeats.
