Ongoing random BSOD in VMX_FB.DLL

The host system is a Lenovo T400 running Win7 x64. Vmware Workstation 6.52, 6.53, and now 7 are having this problem. The guest OS with the BSOD problem is XP SP3.

In the past, disabling "accelerate 3D graphics" would clear it up. Now in WS7, the problem has become severe and deselecting this checkbox isn't helping any.

Any ideas on where to start?

FYI, attempting to open the Display Properties dialog box will reliably trigger the BSOD, as will "Fit Guest Now"

Someone silently rolled out an obsolete version of the Altiris Carbon Copy agent. This is a remote control app that hooks into the video subsystem. Removed; resolved.

Grr!
