How to completely remove VMware and XP

Hello.

I am new here and before you jump on me for not doing

a search, please realize this platform is very confusing for

me. I'm used to vBulletin forums and I found this one difficult

to navigate and search.

I need to find out how to remove VMware and the XP install

inside it completely from my Mac with no traces of either left.

I know this has been asked a million times over, but hopefully

the first paragraph of this post will explain my situation.

I plan to reinstall VMware in a week or two. The problem is,

I am going to be doing a Windows 7 install on my Mac and

from what I understand, it needs a clean install (no XP upgrade).

Would much rather just remove everything I have related to

VMWARE and XP and start from scratch.

Would appreciate your help.

Since you’re new I won’t just say RTFM! and leave it at that, however I’m going to say that in order for you to have started this discussion thread you had to have clicked the "[Start a discussion|http://communities.vmware.com/post!input.jspa?communityID=2348]" link near the top right corner of the page for VMware Fusion and just above that link as plain as day is the "Search Community" text box… so sorry but I’m not going to buy into BS excuses about how different this forum is compared to other forums used and why you didn’t search first or even why you didn’t RTFM.

Search Community results for: completely remove VMware

Also there is really no need to uninstall VMware Fusion or even remove the Windows XP Virtual Machine (assuming it a normal file based vs. Boot Camp partition) in order to install Windows 7 in a Virtual Machine or if installing in Boot Camp partition then all that would be needed is to delete the Boot Camp partition Virtual Machine as it’s just meta-data and will be recreated next time VMware Fusion is opened and then you could run Windows 7 Boot Camp partition as a Virtual Machine if you're not installing a normal file based Virtual Machine.

If you really want to uninstall then read the following or click on the “Search Community results for: completely remove VMware” above and do a little research.

You can use the Uninstaller from the "VMware Fusion <xxxxx>.dmg" disk image file you downloaded to install Fusion with or you can run the "/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/Uninstall VMware Fusion.app". application.

To delete then Virtual Machine(s)...

VMware Fusion (menu bar) > Help > VMware Fusion Help > Running VMware Fusion and Virtual Machines > Deleting a Virtual Machine Using the Virtual Machine Library

VMware Fusion (menu bar) > Help > VMware Fusion Help > Running VMware Fusion and Virtual Machines > Deleting a Virtual Machine Using the Finder

Anyway after locating the Virtual Machine you can just drag it to the Trash and empty it however make sure any User Data on the Virtual Machine has been saved to the Mac before deleting the Virtual Machine.
