Monitoring ESX host via SNMP

Hi all

I've to configure monitoring on ESX 3.5.4 servers, 3 servers in cluster + VC in separate machine.

First part of monitoring will be VC + SNMP traps sent to monitoring system

Second part will be SNMP traps sent from ESX nodes.

I have a problem with monitoring processes and disk mounted on ESX hosts, I was planning to use SNMP traps sent from ESX host to monitoring server.

Below you can find my snpd.conf file

  1. Sample snmpd.conf containing VMware MIB module entries.

  2. This is a simple snmpd.conf that may help you test SNMP.

  3. It is not recommended for production use. Consult the

  4. snmpd.conf(5) man pages to set up a secure installation.

  1. VMware MIB modules. To enable/disable VMware MIB items

  2. add/remove the following entries.

dlmod SNMPESX /usr/lib/vmware/snmp/libSNMPESX.so

proc snmpd 100 1

proc vpxa 100 2

sshd 100 1

disk /var/log 10000

When I'm restarting snmpd on server SNMP trap is sending to trap receiver, while I'm I'm restarting or killing (kill -9 process_name) sshd or vmware-vpxa none of SNMP traps is has been sent to SNMP receiver.

Any ideas what can be wrong in conf file ?

Regards

Artur

Have you checked that this event is covered by the mibs?

If you can receive traps (for whatever reason) your configuration is right.
