vCenter Agent will not start- ESXi 4

Hello all,

New install of ESXi 4 on a Dell 2850. Trying to get VMware Infrastructure to connect to the ESXi 4 server and no luck. Looking at the configuration of running services on the ESXi 4 server, in security profiles, the VMware vCenter Agent service is not running. Try to start the service and get an error of "Error during the configuration of the host:" . Tried rebooting the ESXi server, no luck. Have a VM installed on it, seems to be working otherwise.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Marty

Using Vmware Infrastructure Client 2.5.0 and VMware VirtualCenter 2.5.0

So you are you using VC 2.5 and OLD client.

You need NEW VC and the NEW vSphere Client.

The agent is enable by vCenter Server.

Have you tried to add your ESXi to VC?

When I add to vCenter I get an error "The hose type is not supported, or was added to a cluster but does not support clustering features". The host says disconencted. I thought this was from the service not running on the ESXi box, maybe not.

Orginal issue is I'm not able to add the box to vCenter near as I can tell, unless I'm doing something wrong.

Are you using a VC 4?

Do not add under a VMware Cluster, just add into your datacenter.

Using VC4, I think...

Tried:

No luck. I make a datacenter, try adding a host and it communicated witht the ESXi box (user name/password ok) get to the part where it says connecting in the recent task section then errors out a few seconds later with the "the host type is not supported...". Using Vmware Infrastructure Client 2.5.0 and VMware VirtualCenter 2.5.0
