Error reconnecting host after upgrading to ESX 4.0

I used the update manager in vSphere to update my ESX 3.5 host to ESX 4.0.

When I try reconnecting the host, I get the following error. vCenter does not support host of this type (VMware 4.0.0.0).

Please help

Are you using virtual center 4.0? ESX 4.0 is supported only with vCenter 4.0.

Hope this helps

Are you able to add the host directly under the datacetner. ie, Now you are trying to add the host in a cluster. Instead try adding it under the datacenter directly.

Hope this works.

I have tried added it at datacenter level, in the current cluster and also in a new cluster.

Could you please try removing the host and adding it once again.

Also try removing vpxa from the host manually before reconnect (You can use the command rpm -e `rpm -qa | grep vpxa` to remove vpxa)

The issue was our vCenter 4.0 server. I reinstalled the software and I was able to reconnect the host to the vCenter server.

Thanks for all the help.

Good to see that your problem got resolved. :). I thought the problem was due to the EVC on cluster.
