Sharing Virtual Disk

Hello,

I am running ESXi 4 Installable on a Dell Poweredge 2900 - local storage only.

Using the free license which came with the download, is there a way that I can share a .virtual disk amongst two or more local VMs (if so, how?)? I have configured a disk with the following parameters: Thick, SCSI LSI Logic, SCSI 1:0 Bus, Independent/Persistent. Both of the VMs that I wish to access the shared disk have been setup with the identical disk parameters, pointing to the same location on the datastore. The first VM assigned to the disk boots perfectly, any additional VM that I boot give a "Cannot access locked resource" error while trying to access the shared disk.

I know it is a simple question (I'm a simple person - lol), but I have not been able to find a straight answer on the blogs concerning this matter.

Thanks in advance.

You must use a "application cluster" configuration.

In your case a cluster in a box could be fine.

See:

The trick is create a second vmdk disk attacched to a new SCSI controller and use (on this controller) a option to share this controller and his disks.
