I have a whitebox PC with an Adaptec AHA39320 in it. Unfortunately, vSphere does not recognise this card even though it is listed on the HCL. Note that I can install ESX 3.5 on this PC.
I have tried using RAID 0 and RAID 1 (aka HostRaid) but both configs yield the same result.
I know that this PC is OK with respect to its CPU being 64 bit and ut having a compatible NIC because I can run ESXi v4 off a USB key fine. Just no Adaptec card is shown in the "Storage Adaptors" screen.
Does anyone have any idea why it might not be working and how to address this? FWIW, the PC has a SATA controller but this is not detected either so at the moment I have no local storage available to create a VMFS on.
