Hi All:
I am creating a new virtual machine but not able to see the console screen to install its OS, the error I received is
"host address lookup for server (ESXhostname) failed, the requested name is valid, but no data of the requested type was found".
Is this a network problem in the virtual machine port group ?
I have the virtual machine network setup with service console on the same vSwtich, should i create another port group for this virtual machine on the same swtich ?
thanks
the subnet for the service console is 192.168.1.x / 255.255.255.0 however, on the observed IP range it displayed as 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.255.254, is this correct ?
Check name resolution (DNS) first as the error indicates lookup failure. Is there and A record for the ESX host on your DNS? Is it correct (Right IP)?
yes DNS works good as I can ping by FQDN of all the hosts from the VC server (but may not able to ping from where I used VIC, you think this is the issue ?)
since I have not yet installed the OS on the guest, is that also critical to have DNS setup there ? it just didnt make sense to me that before all these networking things happen I cannot even see the vm in the console
thanks
You can ping the FQDN of the ESX host from the system that you are running the VIC client?
i think thats the problem, I cannot ping it from the VIC machine but i can ping it from the VC machine
troy i will take a look that kb
thanks
Does VIC client and VC server use the same DNS server?
Try with nslookup to be sure that they resolv the names using the same servers.
