Multiple DNS servers in the ESX Configuration

While we were doing some work over the weekend we found out we had a slight DNS issue. The last time we had a failure we realized that our DNS servers were both in our Virtual environment so we added a secondary DNS server on a physical box to solve that problem. What we didn't realize that we only programmed in the 2 DNS servers which were VM's in the configuration of ESX. Is there a away to add more than 2 DNS servers or should we keep one of the VM's as the primary DNS server and change the secondary to the physical box in case of failure?

Thoughts? Concerns? etc...

A simple solution for small environment is use also a static host files.

Anyway you can simple add more DNS server to /etc/resolv.conf (into the COS of ESX).

The order they are listed in resolv.conf matters. So put the physical second that way you do not have to timeout twice when the VMs are down.

As a band-aid I edited the host file to point to the VirtualCenter server and pull the license file down so I could power on my VM's. I try not to rely on the hosts file because too often than not you type in something wrong and screw everything up. Thanks for the location of the nameserver file, I will probably go that route.
