esxi 3.5 in production cluster

hi

we are thinking of migrating our clusters of esx 3.5 to esxi 3.5...basically due to faster updates..no service console..and others known reaseons..

but when i've started to migrate i've noticed that to enable HA you have to make some tricks..

so i'm asking...is esx3i ready for production? ..i mean ..a product made to be in a cluster should have the HA ..how can i say.."native"..and not enabled by triks or manual configuration.

the error i've received was:

HA agent has an error : Host in HA Cluster must have userworld swap enabled

and to solve it i have to enable ScratchConfig.ConfiguredScratchLocation and ScratchConfig.ConfiguredSwapState in the advanced configuration.

is this normal ?

the HA shouldn't be "Native"..and not to be enabled with advanced configuration?

what do you think about it?

thank you

ESXi and ESX are completly compatible and ESXi is ready for productive use, even in mixed environments with ESX. HA should normaly work without any workarounds, too.

Did you use the ESXi server in the past without reinstalling? Maybe reinstalling the vCenter Agent or reconfiguring HA would solve the problem.

Kind Regards,

Do you have any local disks in the ESXi server? If not and your just booting from USB then you need to enable this setting from HA to work and point to a location on whatever storage you are using.

well

i have installed a new esxi..but the same problem

i have a local disk which i have to configure manually..i mean..after installing esxi ..i have to add the local vmfs datastore using the space remaining..(if i don't mind in the esx this should be done automatically)..then i have added the host to the cluster

but i continue to have the erro on the HA agent

When I have done this in the past if I have local disks then this get's auto configured. Can you send a shot of the setting you have used under advanced settings userword?

hi

in order to make the HA working, i needed to add /vmfs/volumes/localdatastorename/adirectoryivecreatedto the first field

and then checked the option you could see on the image attached .

this is the only way it works for me.

thank u
