Hello people,
Can i use ESX 3i for consolidate two Exchange server 2003 for redundancy? 1 box 2 Virtual Exchange. We have around 500 users.
Thanks.
Before virtualizing your exchange boxes, I would consider using Exchange 2007 because provides more users and performance due to bigger cache sizes. There is a best practices to do this via vmware for exchange 2007 pleas google online it will show up quickly.

you can consolidate them but you need to remember that both your exchange 2003 nodes will be on one esxi server so if that server goes you lose everything.

When i moved from physical to virtual with exchange 2003 the way i did it was present the LUNs to the ESX, and create two new nodes. I added the two new nodes to the MSCS and all i did after that was fail over the services. Downtime was a few seconds.
Upgrading to Exchange 2007 was not an option for me because of large costs and its not something we could afford in the budgets. Exchange 2003 works fine with over 1000 users on ESX without any issues at all. In terms of performance we do not have any delays whatso ever on 2003. Maybe if we were dealing with hundrds of thousands of users but at the moment none.
Thanks
