Resizing VM Drive

Hi there

I have created a virtual machine but I need to resize the hard drive as I didn't give myself enough space with the original install. I am trying to do this with a Windows XP guest machine, on a Windows XP host machine running VMWare workstation 5.5, with VMWare Converter.

I have attempted to do this by using the VMWare Converter, and converting the VM to a new one with a bigger hard disk (8gb to 16gb). However, after the creation successfully completes in Converter, I can't boot into Windows on the new machine. All I get is an error about there being no drive A, and a blinking white cursor and it won't boot into Windows.

I can boot into a Windows install disk on the virtual machine, and I have tried both chkdsk and fixmbr, but neither have helped. Can anyone offer any advice please?

Richard

Welcome to the forums!

Do you have made a backup of the original .vmdk file?

While in repair mode with the boot CD, can you access the NTFS partition and read data?
