Same problem here after a rename of the VM.

The vm is not accessible, cannot even delete it from inventory.

Because of this it is not possible to put the esx host in maintenancemode

Darn Smiley Sad

What about ssh:ing the host and

ps -ef | grep "name of the machine" ?

Kill all the tasks associated with the virtual machine ?

I do not have to much patience so I forced a console shutdown of the ESX host.

After reboot, added the vm to inventory and it worked again.

Not a nice solution but it worked 🙂

The VM was not important so I took a shot.

Not recommendable for Production VM's
