We run our vCenter database with SQL 2000, and our backup for the vCenter database is growing upwards to 18GB. I'm 98% sure of the answer and not a SQL expert but looking for some confirmation and to give out some free points.
There should be no reason why I can't change the vcenter database backup plan from keeping 3 weeks of backup files and transaction log files to only 2 weeks and eliminate about 5-6GB of data. The only reason for keeping it that long is for restoring if need be correct?
Kyle
we run our DB's in simple mode. Which means our transactions are only as good as the last backup, which is 2am everyday. The performance data will stay. Also, you can check your logging options in vCenter and if they are not already set, maybe turn them to warnings only.
Also, attached is a best practice from VMworld 2008

Thanks for the suggestions Troy, I'll bring them up at our meeting if we ever have one. I keep forgetting to look at the VMworld 08 considering I was there...
