1 - Check if the "Unknown (inaccessible) VM" is still running on ESX Host.
From ESX service console run:
2 - Once you have all VM instances names compare with VC console inventory... try to unregister your VM manually from service console.
/usr/bin/vmware-cmd -s unregister <config_file_path>*
3 - Check VC console
4 - If everithing is ok register your VM instance again.
/usr/bin/vmware-cmd -s register <config_file_path>*
If I run the command vmware-cmd -l then the output does not show the unknown vm. So i'm unable to unregister it
Restarting the VC services didn't work either!
Try to remove the Host from VC Console, then.... Add to the console again.
You can follow the step on "Basic System Admin Manual"- Unit 7 - page 117.
When you remove the esx from VC console vpxa agent is unistalled, then @ adding again the vpxa is installed and all data is gathered from host.
It's solved. I removed the host from VC and added it again. After this I was able to remove the unknown host.
We had the exact same problem as this last night.
Host crashed, after reboot shows a vm as unknown (inaccessible), right click and it says Object reference not set to an instance of an object so can't remove it.
Tried removing host, rebooitng and re-adding host, vm is still there.
Any ideas how i can get rid of it?
NOTE: We have ESX3.5 U4
