Would this work on a 32bit Ubuntu host?
I have installed vmware server 2 on ubuntu Ibex (32 bit). I have started VMWare server and everything I click gives a null pointer exception. If I click the console tab it tells me the console is not installed, and to click the "install console" link which doesn't do anything.
I am a freelance developer and would have no hesitation purchasing the software if it worked, so far my endeavours are expensive (in terms of time) and unproductive. I have bought vmware workstation for linux some time ago and it was an absolute pig to set up in Ubuntu, and even so I still have to run it with administrative privileges.
Is there a fix for this null pointer issue yet? Its been a while since the OP posted the problem.
great solution, thanks!
this is my configuration:
host: debian lenny 5.0.1 (32bit)
web UI always give me problem with "Loading..." timeout (also on a previous ubuntu 8.10 installation)
so i downloaded the last java for linux 32bit ( jre-6u13-linux-i586.bin ) and moved it on /usr/lib/vmware/webAccess/java
chmod +x jre-6u13-linux-i586.bin
(answer yes to license question)
>> so java package will be exploded and directory /usr/lib/vmware/webAccess/java/jre1.6.0_13 will be created
>> so all vmware services will be stopped
mv jre1.5.0_15 jre1.5.0_15.org
>> so old java version will be renamed
ln -s jre1.6.0_13 jre1.5.0_15
>> so symbolic link to the new java will be created
cp /usr/lib/vmware/webAccess/java/jre1.5.0_15.org/bin/webAccess /usr/lib/vmware/webAccess/java/jre1.6.0_13/bin/
>> so the binary of webAccess will be copied in the new java ver
>> so all vmware services will start
other fixes (a "not found" error on vmware logs):
ln -s config settings
hope this can help
Thanks a lot for this topic about this null pointer exception.
I follow steps and don't see this pb anymore but my first problem is stilling : nearly a timeout since browsing is too slow
I have Debian Lenny and have
Web AccessVersion 2.0.0Build 128374VMware ServerVersion 2.0.1Build 156745 too.
I can't see if the problem is the same from local http browser since I have not installed X Server on my vmware server.
But from this http client under ubuntu 9.04, I can browse fine in localhost with its own VMWare Server (same version) installed.
So do you know for this time a vmwareserver2 console since I try connecting my server without my firefox ?
maybe could be a disk problem? my previous vmware box had IDE disks and was very slow, now with sata works flawless.
actually i'm accessing the WEB UI via internet explorer 8 (before with internet explorer 7) on a windows vista 64bit client without problems.
had you tried with one of these IE version?
also with firefox no problem. never tried from a linux client, sorry.
Thks for your response.
With look for about this webconsole interface too slow from any browser, it seems beeing a reccurent problem.
So my pb is nearly resolute since it works well on one of two ubuntu server 9.04 with vmware server2 embedded.
There is no anymore pointer exception and access from another lan client firefox is correct.
But it is still persists on my second computer with Ubuntu 9.04.
I'm looking for KVM on this computer but it is another story..
I heard about a remote console such within Vmware Server1 but can't waste too much time trying integrate it but if anybody has a solution, please
thanks to update this topic.
VMPIPE (and others) you are awesome! The java fix worked flawlessly. Not only am I not seeing the NullPointerException error anymore, the entire web GUI is more snappy.
The same problem: Web UI does not work.
Host: Ubuntu 9.04 32 bit server (new setup, only Ubuntu patches)
vmware 2.0.1 | 2009/03/31 | Build: 156745 (two installation tries)
Also java jre1.6.0_13 does not help
Problem with Firefox 3.0.10 under Ubuntu and MS IE 6 on XP
The fix was short-lived. No reflection on anyone in this thread. There was definitely an improvement, but within a few days I had to constantly refresh the browser just to get the web GUI to come up. Oh well..
This fix only works for a little bit and then after a reboot of the host the same issues return with the "null pointer". Whenever I try to use the VIC on my desktop it connects but then attemps to download something them the server but says it can not find the file.
Anyone else have any ideas on how to make this go away and maybe even make the web GUI marginally faster, it can be SOOO SLOW at times!
Im found help for debian lenny. Instaled sun-java6-jre from repository and link java webaccess to this java and symlink webAccess file. webaccess now running well.
