Logitech VX Nano

Scrolling speed with the scroll wheel on my Logitech VX Nano is significantly faster in my Windows XP Pro guest than on my Leopard host. I understand Fusion treats the mouse as a generic PS/2 mouse, but wonder if there's a vmx setting or any other method of configuring scroll wheel sensitivity? Adding usb.generic.allowHID = "TRUE" and using Logitech's drivers would presumably fix the issue inside the guest, but would make switching between the guest and host very painful.

I've tried setting "Roll the wheel one notch to scroll the following number of lines at a time:" to 1 (the minimum) in Windows XP's Mouse control panel. In this case, with the mouse in precision (click) scrolling mode each click scrolls up/down anywhere from 5-10 or more lines in Excel, and with the mouse in smooth (frictionless) scrolling mode I'm able to keep it to 1 line in Excel if I have a very steady finger... however significantly more sensitive than in the host OS. Bumping the control panel setting back up to 3 (the default) means scrolling up to 30 or line lines in a click in precision mode and makes scrolling 1 line at a time basically impossible in smooth mode. So, apparently I just need an option for sometime like 1 lines per 10 clicks. Smiley Wink

If there isn't a way to configure the sensitivity of the virtual scroll wheel, any thoughts on some combination of scroll settings in the host and guest that could even things out a bit?

Confirmed a few workarounds for the fast scrolling problem:

1) Add usb.generic.allowHID = "TRUE" to the virtual machine's .vmx file, install Logitech SetPoint 4.7 in the WIndows XP guest, and attach the Nano USB receiver to the virtual machine. However, this workaround means having to disconnect and reconnect the USB receiver (or detach and reattach the Nano USB receiver to the virtual machine) when switching between Mac OS X and Windows XP, which makes it impractical for everyday use.

2) Uninstall Logitech Control Center 2.6 from Mac OS X. However, this workaround means losing the ability to use the VX Nano's back/forward buttons, left/right scrolling, and the document flip button in both Mac OS X and the Windows XP guest.

3) I tried playing with the scroll speed and acceleration settings in Logitech Control Center a bit, but wasn't able to come up with a combination that appeared to emulate whatever is set in Mac OS X's Keyboard & Mouse control panel consistently with what would be the case if Logitech Control Center isn't installed. Enough testing and you may find something that would work. Your mileage may vary.

Old post but it gives light to my own problem which is identical.

Similar logitech wireless mouse, XP host, XP guest and the scroll wheel flies....

From what you wrote, I understand that the bug is triggered by the Logitech software instaleld on the guest...

Who knows. I will try when I go home...

Take care

I found the source of the problem !!!

Yes. The Logitech "SetPoint" Software running remotely  on the Master PC connecting the  Logitech Marathon M705 (and probably  other similar mouses) triggers the  bug within the VMware. Scrolling  speed with the scroll wheel on that  Logitech mouse is significantly faster in the Windows XP Pro guest than on host.

The  best way to fix this is to dissable logitech's  "SetPoint" software from  loading on boot. You may delete the relevant  registry entries to  achieve this.

The pay off is that I lost the ability to assign  functions on the mouse  keys on the host but I am sure you can do it  using another program .  All the buttons can remain functionable even  without the logitech  program running, but they all function by their  default setting but  like said you may do it using another program.

Updated information.

You can leave the Logitech Setpoint application running on the Master /Host PC and just dissable the option in the scrolling Tab that allows you to "enable smooth scrolling"

in Logitech's Setpoint application, for most mice, there is an option in the scrolling Tab that  allows you to "enable smooth scrolling" which makes scrolling in  Firefox, pixel perfect when you have the mouse wheel in smooth scroll  mode. DISSABLE IT.

That will make the trick. So, you can connect your logitech mouse in the host, network it to the other PCs using Input Director and run your Guests without this problem.

Additionally you get all the button presets working in all Input Director Slave PCs, the VMWare Host and Guests, and your life is ON again until the next disaster....

And I repeat, this is a VMware bug and not a mouse software bug.

Love
