Horizontal scrolling with a trackball mouse?

MacBook Pro running OSX 10.5.5 -> VMWare Fusion 2 -> Windows XP.

I recently purchased a Kensington K72281US bluetooth mouse with trackball similar to the Apple Mighty Mouse. Unfortunately in virtual XP I am not able to scroll horizontally in applications like Excel. Horizontal scroll works fine in all OSX apps. I was wondering if there is a workaround for this.

From reading through some old posts, it seems like the official answer is that it's not supported, but discussions like this make me think that it's possible.

The virtual machine is always presented with a two (three?) button mouse with a single vertical scroll wheel. In order to use a mouse with additional features, it would need to be USB and then you would attach it directly to the VM. Of couse, that means the mouse is no longer available to your host machine. So this is really only useful if you have more than one mouse or trackball. As VMWare normally does not discuss future plans, it is unlikely that you will receive much more info on if or when the virtual mouse will be updated.
