host os is winxp sp3
vmware workstation 6.51 build 126130 with winxp sp3
whenever i attempt to access shared files on the host machine from the guest vm i get the folllowing error:
"cannot copy file "XXX" the specified network name is no longer available"
the share permissions are properly granted. by the way accesing shared files residing on the guest machine seems to be no problem when attempting to access from the host machine
any thoughts? any additional info i should provide?
How are you trying to get to the shares (Start->Run
xxx or mapped drive)?
Are you using a host name or IP address ?
Is there a route from the guest vm network to host machine?
What do you get when you "nbtstat -A host.ip.address"?
Try temporarily disabling any "Large Send Offload" settings on your Host's network adapater.
How are you trying to get to the shares (Start->Run
xxx or mapped drive)? i can access the shares in every conceivable manner.
Start->Run> //192.168.0.10 (host machine)
succesfuly mapped drive from guest machine to host
Are you using a host name or IP address ? ip address
Is there a route from the guest vm network to host machine? yes
What do you get when you "nbtstat -A host.ip.address"?when run from cmd line on the guest machine the results show mac address of host machie and several instances of the host machine with "registered" as the status.
thanks but i don't have an opton like that for my nic. i just uploaded and installed the latest driver.
I am struggling with this very same problem and it is killing me. I frequently get this problem while working with Visual Studio during compiles. I am unable today to get anything done because I keep getting the "the specified network name is no longer available" after waiting for some time.
I have been fighting this for months. I am on VIsta 64 Host and WIn XP Guest with both OSes fully updated. I have tried reducing the MTU for the guest. The drive is mapped using the Host Name. There is no reason for there not to be a route. Explorer is able to access the drive with no problems most of the time. The traffic in question is entirely between the Guest and the Host and does not involve any network shares that are not physical drives on the Host. I changed the mapping from a Network Name to an IP address and it made no difference.
Please help us both; this problem is making VMware useless to me at the moment and is severely reducing my productivity.
Thanks!
