Licensing for Virtual Center 2.0.1 and ESX 3.0.1

Are ESX and Virtual Center licenses backwards compatible? It seems like I can only buy licenses for the current versions of ESX and Virtual Center (vCenter Server), but what I need is additional Virtual Center 2.0.1 and ESX 3.0.1 licenses.
