You could try to perform a cold migration using the converter CD (if you have a license). Then it MIGHT work on a non SP6 NT install...

I would recommend upgrading your NT box to SP6a before migrating ( )

generally NT runs fine as a VM

The answer to that would be a No, Converter 3.0.3 can convert NT4.0 but only at SP6a.

You will need to upgrade the source machine to SP6a prior to attempting a conversion

Also why are you running a NT4 machine on such a low level service pack!!! SP4 introduced all sorts of secruity fixes that are consider default. and the last SP release 6a was in 2001 :smileyshocked: SP3 was some time about 1998. are you actually saying that this machine has not been patched since 1998 :smileyshocked:

SP3 was some time about 1998. are you actually saying that this machine has not been patched since 1998

That's a rhetorical question right? A better question would be why are they running NT 4.0 (2 releases of Windows Server in between), that's astonishing. NT hasn't been supported since 2001.

In his defense, some programs dont' work well with new OS serivce packs. When we were running Citrix 1.8 on Windows 2000 boxes, any patches after SP2 would cause the environment to come to a snails pace.

Obviously the upgrade will need to happen before the p2v but if the box can't be upgraded to SP6a, you could always start fresh by building a new VM and going from there.

P2V-assistant version 1 installed on a NT4 - sp3 helper VM would probably work ...
