MKS.nobeep="TRUE" -- not working in prefs.ini in Windows (VMW 6.5)

Subject line says it all.

All my guests are beep beep beeping..

If I put it in the actual VMX file, I'm fine.. but the "global" setting .. isn't working.

Setup:

-HOST: VMW 6.5

-Guests: All flavors of Windows. XP, W3, W8 and Vista.

I know I'm using the right file.. because inside the preferences.ini file, I see references to an ISO file that I created and used today.. so there's no way I'm somehow using the wrong preferences.ini file.

Please advise.

Hardware is Dell Latitude D620.

C:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware Workstation\config.ini

that dir is hidden on some setups

In the same directory where the preferences.ini file is (\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\VMware).
