Failed to export Virutal Appliance: I/O error occurred.

I was exporting a Virtual Machine in VMware ESX Server 3i attached to a NFS share. I am trying to export it to the same NFS share, and also locally on my computer.. So I finally get this "failed to export virtual appliance: I/O error occurred"

I've seen this type of error before for either a snapshot on the vm, or if your NFS mount was not read-write. Check the permissions on NFS, and check your NFS server for logs that may point to a permissions issue.

I previously checked the snapshots, and removed them. I was getting the same key error, when i had the snapshots. I made sure my NFS share had read-write access, and still no dice. I have created a flat file, which is 70GB, I believe that it should have no bearing on it, because there are many Virtual Appliances, that are larger than 70GB in enterprise structure I hear.

Look in your vi client logs. They should be in %temp%. They will probably give you more details to the error message.

Hi,

Do you get this error in a second you start this exporting? If yes, then you must be trying to export when the VM is powered on. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Was not on a Gig-E Infrastructure to do the export.

I have the same issue with my VI Client on my laptop (with GigE interface and connectivity). I used the LAN Gig interface assuming that it will be fast but it failed within a couple of min everytime i tried to export. It worked fine when i was on my wireless-g interface but was taking too long. I cancelled it towards the end as i had to shutdown my laptop. I ended up logging on to the VC server and tried export from there and it worked and was pretty quick.

I had the same problem. I gave everyone permissions to the nas and now I can export to the nas unit.
