Installing ESX update 2 THROUGH UPDATE mgr on VC 2.5

I am looking to upgrade to ESX update 2 through the Update manager.

My first time using update manager and upgrading a patch on ESX.

I found lots on the "requirements" vmware .pdf's but not alot on the drilling down / Process of it.

Can anyone walk me through this is they have installed through update mgr. Any gotch ya ( YEAH IM SURE)

I already set a "baseline" and found the esx update 2 under Non-critial patches as esx update 2 for 3.5.

I check marked next to "non- critical host updates" and highlighted esx server 3.50 update 2. Should I just go for it? this is in the lab so i can be a cowboy.

Also is it faster and safer this way compared to a manual at the console / boot up with the ISO patch ?

I guess I can also see if it has completed through VC summary esx host...

Thx for any help !

Hello,

1) Attach the baseline to a host

2) Scan for updates

3) Remediate the host

That is how I upgraded to Update 2 on my systems. I would select all patches instead of just update 2. VUM will figure out what is needed and what is not. You also may have to evacuate all VMs by hand if they are running and you may have to force a reboot if things get stuck, if you do force a reboot be carefull it is trying to do it on its own first.
